Creative Mentoring

I love helping stuck creatives move through their blocks and take action towards building the life of their dreams.

Hi! I’m Cassie and I’m a professional writer, writing workshop facilitator, creative mentor, and long-distance caregiver based in Perth, Western Australia.

I’ve spent the last 13 years building my dream life from scratch: going from burned-out travel agent in the UK to spending seven years travelling the world as a travel writer and disaster relief volunteer, and now living the creative life I’ve always wanted in a lovely little cottage between the beach and bush in Australia.

I know how it feels to be stuck in a life you don’t want and feel like there should be something more. Not wanting to give up on your creative dreams, but feeling like you’ve plateaued and you’re struggling. I’ve been there (more times than I’d like to admit).

Sometimes, we just need a helping hand. Someone to talk to, someone to share our deepest dreams and goals with, and someone who can help us put together a map to get us there.

My creative mentoring services embrace every aspect of my own story – from starting out as a travel agent and making other people’s dream trips a reality to utilising my creativity and leveraging my skills to make my own dream life a reality – to help you join the dots from where you started to where you are and where you want to be.

The creative life isn’t easy, but if you’re feeling like everything is a challenge and an uphill slog and just want some support – be it from a quick creative block-busting session or a fully supported mentorship program complete with road maps and goals – I’m here to help.

Mentorship Programs & Creative Coaching

After spending more than 10 years working as a freelance writer and building a creative business from the ground up, I’ve learned more than a few tips and tricks along the way. I’ve also made every possible mistake imaginable, too, especially as I started my travel writing career from scratch after being robbed while living on a beach in Cambodia (check out my writer origin story, here).

Despite having to learn almost everything the hard way – I have a thing about taking the scenic route – my favourite thing about mentoring is using my experience to help other creatives bypass some of the struggles, get clear on their creative purpose, and come up with an action plan to get from A to B, while providing lots of support along the way.

My creative mentorships are for freelance writers and creatives who want to dive deeper on their journey – wherever they are – and are looking for support, companionship, and accountability as they journey through this creative life.

I especially love working with people who are:

  • Just starting out on their creative journey and looking for some support
  • Wanting to make a living from their art or build a creative business
  • Wanting some support with the daily ins and outs of running a creative business
  • Desiring some big changes in their creative career/life but feeling overwhelmed
  • Dreaming of creating a big project like writing a book or getting a publishing deal
  • Looking for some creative, out-of-the-box soundboarding, support, and/or accountability
  • Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and/or lacking confidence and looking for a magic fix
  • Struggling with navigating big life challenges (like my journey with my mum’s young-onset Alzheimer’s)

All of these are things I’ve personally sought out teachers and mentors and scoured the internet looking for programs and resources to help me with, and now have oodles of resources and first-hand experience to benefit others navigating similar struggles.

Mentorship Testimonials

“I feel so grateful to have found Cassie. She really is a wealth of knowledge, and it shines through from the moment you begin your session with her. She’s not only a beaming ray of sunshine, but she is a deep listener and a natural problem solver. I admired Cassies efficiency, and how much we managed to pack into a session.

The follow up notes I received from Cassie were exemplary, a pure testament to how deeply she had listened to me, with several structured and achievable goals gently set in place. Thank you Cassie, you are clearly where you are meant to be, and such a valued and needed service to the creative community.”

Shout out to Cassie Wilkins. This year, I wanted my words to be published in my favourite magazines. While I feel somewhat confident in my writing skills, my pitching skills were next to nothing. It’s like I was having to write a pitch in a foreign language, and my confidence in getting one accepted was nil.

Cue Cassie. She helped me understand the ins and outs of crafting a pitch that’s more likely to get accepted. She also helped me take my ideas and work them into concepts that still felt authentically me, but might suit the publication better. I finally had the confidence to write my first pitch to Frankie magazine, and it got accepted! I don’t think I would have managed it without her help. Now to just get writing…

Thank you, Cassie, I’m still riding high off our call and can’t wait to work with you again

“I had a great mentoring session with Cassie at the end of last year. Cassie helped me recognise where my work overwhelm was stemming from, while sharing invaluable tips and business-focused emotional support that I really needed at the time. I came away from the call feeling lighter (after realising I was putting unnecessary deadlines and pressure on myself), proud of what I had achieved that year, and clear-minded about what I wanted out of 2024.

If you’re looking for a mentor, I highly recommend Cassie!”

Further Testimonials

Cassie’s mentorship was excellent for me. She understood what I needed and what I needed to hear and communicated with me in a gentle way, allowing me to see paths and possibilities that I couldn’t see at that moment or that I struggled to accept as possible. This felt like a little weight was lifted and I feel freer to seek what I need now.

The notes, resources, and practical tools Cassie sent me are also of immense value and I know I will consult them when I need them.”

M – Writer, Filmmaker + Actor, Italy

Cassie did a tremendous job of holding space for me while I shared and talked through my ideas. This was really helpful to my process.

I also think she is very insightful and has a lot of great tips. She gave me the validation and encouragement I needed to trust myself and my process more. Thank you so much!”

It honestly felt like having a conversation with a friend and I really appreciated that. Cassie was kind & compassionate during our time together. I felt heard, seen, and respected on my journey so far. She went above & beyond to deliver an excellent service. She is so full of wisdom and I adore the nuance & flexibility she offers to each situation.

I LOVED our time together! I also really appreciated working with another neurodivergent person who can understand all the ways our minds are different and provide a different level of support. I also deeply appreciate the time it took for her to write the follow-up email and also compile those notes. They were deeply insightful and had so much knowledge in the grooves and angles, super meaty!! “

Ocean – Artist, UK

I think you did such a wonderful job, I truly appreciated all of the communication, how much you got to know me, and all of your advice and the wonderful resources you shared! I will definitely be recommending you to anyone who needs support with their creative journey!

I wanted help with my query letter and advice on summarizing/pitching my story and sending it out to agents. I receieved a lot of good resources, as well as a general sense of direction of where I want to go next with my writing, query, and generally the path of getting my novel out into the world!

It was super helpful to acknowledge and get help on some of the more difficult parts of the writing process for me. It felt great to receive support and advice on those things, since they can feel so stressful for me and really shut down a lot of my desire to get my writing out into the world. It was so valuable for me to get that reassurance, advice and support!”

Adriana – Author, USA

I gained so much clarity and by the end of our call I was more than ready to tackle some of the actions we discussed. My workload suddenly feels lighter because I’m less overwhelmed and have a clear view of my priorities. Sometimes, we just need that sounding board to help us move from A to B, and break what feels like a “big thing” down into smaller, more manageable, chunks.

I also loved the follow up email you shared after our mentoring session and can’t wait to tune into the Kickstarter resources over the coming days.
